We are honoured to host the EJOI 2019 in Maribor, the second largest city in Slovenia.
90 skilful young programmers from 24 European countries, accompanied by 44 mentors, will compete for the title of Europe’s best junior programmer this year.
The Olympiad is an excellent opportunity to promote the science of informatics among the students.
In the late 80s, Slovenia was one of the most computer literate countries in Europe, alas, the promising beginning was followed by a significant time of little or no progress, especially at the level of primary education. The situation has been gradually improving in recent years. The Slovenian government has been paying more attention to the field and actively encouraging introduction of computer courses in early stages of education.
Hopefully, this year’s Olympiad will contribute to further promotion of computer science and informatics in early education and help secure its position in the school curriculum.
I hope you all enjoy great success in the competition, make new acquaintances, and, above all, use your potentials to advance your personal development.
Dr. Borut Jurčič Zlobec, Chairman of EJOI 2019
